M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics (International Program)

Program Title: Master of Science Program in Applied Mathematics

Degree: Master of Science (Applied Mathematics), M.Sc. (Applied Mathematics)

The program aims to produce master-level graduates with

  • knowledge of mathematics and related sciences both in theoretical and applied aspects with modern methodology at the international level,
  • capability for searching for knowledge, doing research and communicating academically, and
  • virtue and professional etiquette.

Admission Requirements

  1. Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Engineering, or an equivalent degree, or other degrees with at least 5 mathematics subjects.
  2. G.P.A. of at least 2.50.
  3. Exemption to the above items may be made by the program committee.

Selection Procedure

  • Students in Thailand must pass an entrance examination and an interview. Written examination paper includes General Knowledge, Mathematics, Mathematics for Advanced studies, and English.
  • Oversea students must pass an entrance examination and/or an interview or other procedure approved by the program committee and the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University. Final judgment is subject to the consideration of the Administrative Program Committee and the Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University.

Academic System​

A student may complete the Master of Science Program in Mathematics in a regular period of 2 years. Each academic year consists of two regular semesters (16 weeks). A Student must enroll in and complete all the requirements of the Master of Science Program in Mathematics in order to qualify for graduation. One credit of a lecture course is equivalent to one hour of teaching per week in a regular semester. One credit of laboratory course is equivalent to two or three hours per week in a regular semester.

Duration of Study

The duration of study must not be longer than five years.


  1. Students must register full-time.
  2. Students must register for no less than 9 credits and no more than 15 credits per regular semester, or as suggested by their advisors.

Graduation Requirements

To qualify for graduation, the student must accomplish the followings.

  1. Pass all courses in the curriculum structure, consisting of at least 24 credits of coursework and 12 credits of thesis, with a GPA of no less than 3.00;
  2. Pass the English requirement; 

    TOEFL Paper Based score of at least 500 or

    TOEFL Computer Based score of at least 173 or

    TOEFL Internet Based score of at least 61 or

    IELTS score of at least 5.5.

  3. Pass the oral thesis defense and submit a thesis according to the regulation of Faculty of Graduate Studies;
  4. The thesis or a part of thesis is published or accepted for publication in a journal or an academic printed matter which has a peer review or is presented in an academic conference which has a peer review and proceedings.
