Scholarship for PhD in Mathematics (Swiss NSF)

  • Description

We seek a PhD student to work on integrating traffic information into LPNet and ANN/SNN for routing problems. Funded by the Swiss NSF, this project is a collaboration between the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand, and Idiap Research Institute in Switzerland.

At Mahidol, we will be responsible for designing frameworks for LPNet and neural networks to address the vehicle routing problem (VRP). The project will explore the effectiveness of these approaches in solving VRP and identify their limitations. The ultimate aim is to enhance VRP solutions through our spiking neural network (SNN) framework.

All work at Mahidol will be conducted in close collaboration with our partners in Switzerland. The successful candidate will spend approximately one year seconded to Idiap, with a counterpart at Idiap also spending one year at Mahidol.

  • Sought profile

The ideal Ph.D. student should have a master’s (or equivalent) degree in engineering, computer science, physics, or mathematics.

They should have a good background in mathematics, statistics, and programming (C/C++, Python, scripting languages). Candidates should have a deep understanding of ANNs and, ideally, familiarity with SNNs.

The SNSF SPIRIT program is especially concerned with gender and identity inclusivity; we will emphasize this through the hiring process.  In this sense, we particularly encourage applications from female candidates.

The student will be enrolled in an International PhD Program in Mathematics (https://mathematics.sc.mahidol.ac.th/programs/phd-mathematics/).

The position, starting in early 2025, is fully funded for four years with monthly stipends.
